Harvest Monday op dinsdag vandaag. Ik was er even een lang weekend tussenuit naar de kust. De kropjes sla, aardbeien en peulen werden in het vakantiehuisje opgegeten, samen met de rest van de familie. In juni mogen we altijd mee met de “schoonoma” voor haar verjaardag en ze is verzot op peultjes dus ik kan ze elk jaar gelukkig maken.
De 2 flinke bloemkolen hebben we zelf verorberd! Eén van de bloemkolen was net te ver en begon al licht te verkleuren. Verder geen smaak- of kwaliteitsverschil gemerkt, erg lekker!
Verder heb ik ook alle basilicum getopt in de serre. De gewone basilicum ging in een pesto en de Thaïse basilicum ging in een wok met peultjes, paksoi en enkele broccolischeuten.
We komen nu toch echt niet meer om van de honger!! Ook de rest van de wereld is flink aan het oogsten, kijk maar bij Our Happy Acres.
Harvest Monday on a Tuesday… Last week, I was feeling a bit under the weather, hence my lack of reaction here on the blog.
I went a long weekend to the Belgian coast to celebrate my “grandma-in-law”’s birthday. She’s always really happy when I bring her vegetables from my farm (as she calls it), especially when I bring snow peas, those are her favorite!
I also brought the lettuce, a bowl of strawberries and zucchini. The squash went in some couscous salad along with some peppers (from the shop).
We ate the huge cauliflowers ourselves. Thay were great despite the fact that one of them had started to change in color slightly. No change in terms of taste, luckily!
I topped the basil in the greenhouse. The regular basil went into some pesto and the thai basil was used in a stir-fry with some bok choy, snow peas and some broccoli side shoots. I really love holy basil stir-fry, so I was really happy with this harvest.
The rhubarb was harvested from my neighbor’s garden. He’s in Greece at the moment and I’m tending his garden while he’s away. Let’s hope it’s drier over there because we’ve had the wettest spring in years. Lots of farmers have seen their crops drown, literally. Luckily I’m growing in a sandy soil, which means lots of watering in the summer but no trouble with floods etc.
I’ve seen the first small beans in the garden, so I might be harvesting these this week. Something to look forward to for next Harvest Monday.

That’s beautiful cauliflower! It’s difficult to grow here so I gave up trying. My beans are flowering too so I am hoping for beans soon myself. And I think many people would be happy if someone brought them all those vegetables and fruit, I know I would!
